Square rooms are not boring at all; that if you know how to style them. Give it some movement and excitement with these basic how-to’s.
Identify Your Room’s Key Feature
It can be a fireplace or a large bay window. The main feature of the room is the focal point of the room. If it does not have one, create one. Throw in a piece of art or a good piece of furniture that will help create colour and flavour to the space.
In a nutshell, spot that main feature and make sure it’s the room’s most distinguishing feature.
Make Use of its Vertical Space
A smart way to break the monotony of a room’s regularity is to ensure that the space has some vertical elements. Get creative by using accessories like tall vases of flowers to draw the eyes upwards, choose a simple piece of artwork for the wall or pendant lights to attract interest and attention.
Enhance with Symmetry
While a square room can be lacklustre, you can actually turn it into something striking by duplicating its symmetry if done right. Try something bold to complement the squareness by creating doubles. Depending on what elements you have inside the room, you can place two identical lounges opposite each other to further enhance the space.
Work with Diagonals
You can change the look of a square room by working with diagonals. This is achieved by softening corners with furniture, lighting or accessories. Making the eye work on opposing corners of the room rather than wall to wall will change the perceived room shape.
