Feeling sad and having a sense of loss is natural when you experience what they call the empty nest. However, parents can use this period in their life to reconnect with each other and revive interests that they had to abandon for lack of time.
They can also use this time to reinvigorate their home.
Here are 7 ideas to renovate your child’s old bedroom:
1. Guest Room
After the kids have left home, you may have more idle time. Use it to reconnect with old friends. Host lovely dinner parties and invite friends from out of town to come and stay in your beautifully renovated guest room for the weekend. It will also be convenient when your child comes home for a visit.
2. Dressing Room
If you need more space for your clothing and accessories, build a dressing room – one with luxurious, big mirrors and a pretty vanity table.
Our goal is to be fitter but perhaps supporting your kid through uni didn’t allow spare money for a gym membership. Fortunately, it doesn’t cost much to build a home gym. Space is the utmost requirement when we talk about working out. Buy the right equipment gradually over time.
The cluttered room that smelled of pizza and dirty socks before could be your space to escape from it all, the perfect room for you to meditate or read. Transform your child’s old room into a retreat for peace and relaxation.
5. Game Room
There are so many items you can put in your game room – a big screen TV, video console or a billiards table. The room should be a fun and a comfortable place to spend time with the kids and grandkids when they are visiting. Alternatively, you can convert it into a music room if you’ve wanted to learn to play a musical instrument or have jam sessions.
6. Office / studio
If you’d always wanted to work from home but lack the space, you can perhaps rebuild your dining room table to its original purpose from its present use as a jewellery-making bench. Or maybe you want to resurrect your passion from model ship building or painting.
Now you have a new space where you can indulge your work or hobbies. Finally you can even have your sewing room.
7. Rent it
You can use the spare room in your home as a temporary accommodation for people like seasonal employees and students. You can earn additional income or maybe have little company. Make sure to research extensively and consider matters such as chores, guests, division of bills and privacy.
